News: Gehe starts work on one-stop centres
Gehe UK has started work on its first two one-stop health centres (PJ, 7 July, p5) in Manchester and Lanark.
The Delamere centre in Manchester will house three GP practices and a pharmacy together with physiotherapy, paediatric, speech therapy and chiropody services run by Trafford North Primary Care Trust. The centre will also include a social and welfare advice service, a crêche, exercise and fitness facilities and an internet café. The £2m health centre is due to open in July 2002.
The Woodstock medical centre at Lanark will house eight GPs together with nurses and health visitors. There are plans to relocate a pharmacy to the centre in the near future. An adjoining building, being developed by Lanarkshire Primary Care Trust, will provide chiropody, dentistry, mental health, physiotherapy and maternity services. The £2m centre is due to open in August 2002.
