Pharmaceutical Needs Assessments to stay

By News team

Pharmaceutical needs assessments (PNAs) are expected to remain in the new structure of the NHS, pharmacy minister Earl Howe has said.

posed by Baroness Cumberlege, vice-chairman of the All-Party Pharmacy Group, Earl Howe said that consideration is currently being given to where the responsibility for PNAs will sit following the abolition of primary care trusts. He added that responses to the White Paper "Equity and Excellence: Liberating the NHS" and supporting consultations will help inform this decision.

Earl Howe also confirmed that PCTs have a statutory duty to complete and publish PNAs by 1 February 2011.
