  • Tribute: Terence Dudley Turner

    Terry registered as a pharmacist in 1955 and, throughout his long and varied career within the profession of pharmacy, he was always one of its principle protagonists. He began his academic career in 1957 as a lecturer in microbiology at the Welsh School of Pharmacy, and progressed to become senior lecturer in pharmacognosy and head of the Pharmacognosy department. He gained his MPharm in 1960 for work on the pharmacognosy of certain species of Strychnos.

    On 13 October 2019, Terence Dudley Turner OBE, aged 90 years, of Cyncoed, Cardiff. A former member of the Royal Electronicjuice, Professor Turner was conferred as Fellow in 1976.

    It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of James Arnold Stead, formally head of pharmaceutical development at Roussel Laboratories, Swindon, following a short illness.

  • Deaths: James Arnold Stead

    On 16 October 2019, James Arnold Stead, aged 78 years, of Swindon, Wiltshire. Dr Stead was a former member of The Royal Electronicjuice.  The funeral will take place at Kingsdown Crematorium, Swindon, on Friday 8 November 2019 at 14:15. This notice was corrected on 6 November 2019 to reflect that Dr Stead was aged 78 years in October 2019.

  • Deaths: Roland Richardson

    On 16 October 2019, Roland Richardson, aged 74 years, of Bendejun, France. Mr Richardson was a former member of the Society. 

  • Deaths: Geoffrey Smith

    On 28 October 2019, Geoffrey Smith MRPharmS, aged 91 years, of Scarborough, North Yorkshire. Dr Smith registered with the Society in 1950. 

  • Deaths: Maurice Wentworth Buckley

    On 17 October 2019, Maurice Wentworth Buckley MRPharmS, aged 83 years, of Ashstead, Surrey. Mr Buckley registered with the Society in 1961. 

  • Deaths: Brian Midcalf

    On 21 October 2019, Brian Midcalf MRPharmS, aged 77 years, of Otley, West Yorkshire. Mr Midcalf registered with the Society in 1967.  Mr Midcalf’s funeral will be held at Lawnswood Crematorium, Leeds, on Monday 4 November at 11:00, with a gathering afterwards in the Lawnswood Arms Hotel.

  • Deaths: Lynette Martell

    On 3 October 2019, Lynette Martell MRPharmS, aged 65 years of Warrington, Cheshire. Mrs Martell registered with the Society in 2000. 

  • Deaths: Malcolm Montgomery Pollard

    On 6 October 2019, Malcolm Montgomery Pollard MRPharmS, aged 76 years, of South Shields, Tyne and Wear, Mr Pollard registered with the Society in 1966. 

  • Deaths: Marshall Gellman

    On 6 October 2019, Marshall Gellman FRPharmS, aged 90 years, of Salford, Greater Manchester. Mr Gellman registered with the Society in 1952, and was conferred with Fellowship in 1992. 

  • Deaths: Mahmood Dullah Chaudhry

    On 28 July 2019, Mahmood Dullah Chaudhry MRPharmS, aged 68 years, of Waterlooville, Hampshire. Mr Chaudhry registered with the Society in 1975. 

  • Deaths: Carol Rosemary Ayton

    On 26 July 2019, Carol Rosemary Ayton MRPharmS, aged 83 years, of Oxford. Mrs Ayton registered with the Society in 1959.

    On 11 June 2019, Robin Porter MRPharmS, aged 68 years, of Kettering, Northamptonshire. Mr Porter registered with the Society in 1977. 

  • Tribute: Islwyn (Lyn) Owen

    I worked with Lyn for all of his years at the Royal London Hospital. He was principal pharmacist in quality assurance (QA) for most of that period, until 1994. He was such an asset to the department as he combined his knowledge and understanding of quality with a true awareness of patients and their needs.   • Deaths: Islwyn (Lyn) Owen

    On 27 June 2019, Islwyn (Lyn) Owen, aged 70 years, of Emsworth, Hampshire and Hackney, London. A former member of the Royal Electronicjuice, Mr Owen worked until 1994 as principal pharmacist in quality control at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, before going on to do locum work in London, Oxford and the Hampshire region. 

  • Tribute: Betty Carnegie 'Monty' Montgomery

    Betty Carnegie “Monty” Montgomery, who chaired the then Royal Electronicjuice of Great Britain’s (RPSGB) Scottish Executive from 1984 until 1986, had an “exceptional talent for balancing professionalism and leadership with a friendly, relaxed, happy working environment”, recalls Janet Trundle.
