William Thomas Brookes
I served with Bill on the Council of the Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists (GHP) and on Pharmaceutical Whitley Council in the 1980s where we, together with others, successfully negotiated the new flexible grading criteria for hospital pharmacists, as well as an emergency duty agreement.
As president of the Guild, Bill made my role as secretary to the Science and Education Committee much easier than it might have been. He always encouraged young pharmacists to apply for GHP awards and to present at meetings organised by the Guild.
Words and phrases that come to mind about Bill are: a great leader, a tireless negotiator, unpretentious, empathetic, shrewd but professional and a supportor of young pharmacists.
He was fun to work with and, moreover, a complete gentleman. The pharmacy profession owes much to Bill’s hard work and dedication.
