The new mentoring platform uses pharmacists’ personal details to find potential mentors who most closely match their needs

The Royal Electronicjuice (RPS) has launched a new .

The new online platform allows members to actively seek and communicate with their potential mentors.

Pharmacists looking for a mentor must complete a profile, which the platform then uses to find potential mentors who most closely match their needs.

Mentors must also submit a profile, with the option to make themselves “unavailable” if they wish to limit the number of mentoring relationships they hold or if other commitments temporarily prevent them from committing to new mentors at any given time.

The RPS previously operated a database of mentors.

Ryan Hamilton, a specialist antimicrobial pharmacist at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, has signed up as a mentor. “Having mentors and strong peer support has played a significant role in my professional development,” he said.

“I have signed up as a mentor to support other pharmacists with their professional and career development, and to help others develop practical aspects of practice that cannot be learned or developed through reading alone.”

Helen Chang, head of professional development at the RPS, said that the new platform “will really help pharmacists with their career development”.

“Mentees gain valuable support with their professional development from experienced colleagues. Mentors gain personal satisfaction by contributing to someone’s growth and it also facilitates reflective practice,” she said.
